Potassium Methylate
The alkoxide potassium methylate is a clear, colorless liquid. Potassium methylate 32% solution (dissolved in methanol, KM 32) is a catalyst in transesterification of specific oils and fats. Almost all oils and fats can be transesterified using potassium catalysts (e.g. for biodiesel production). As a result, the potassium methylate catalyst is used wherever price dictates alternative, cheaper raw products such as animal fats or used cooking oils (frying fat) be used in place of pure vegetable oils.
