Methane Sulphonic Acid (MSA)
Methane sulphonic acid (MSA) is a strong, odorless and less corrosive acid. MSA is not harmful to systems, employees, customers, waste management or the environment when used in chemical synthesis, metal refinement or industrial cleaning. It can be used sparingly and saves energy. Additional advantages are the high solubility of its salts, its lack of color and the fact that it is readily biodegradable (according to OECD Directive 301 A). The acid strength of the organic methane sulphonic acid is between that of carboxylic acids and strong mineral acids. Since methane sulphonic acid is odorless, it may also be used in odor-sensitive applications. Its lack of smell also increases safety at work because it does not produce any acrid fumes. MSA is very suitable for neutralisation of vegetable oils with high FFA content.
